Alexis expecting to stay at Barça

“I hope to offer a lot more of myself next season” said the Chilean in today’s press conference. “I can do a lot more.”

“Playing for Barça is like starting football all over again. I have learned a lot of things” added Alexis Sánchez

Alexis Sánchez spoke to the press on Friday and announced that he expects to still be playing for FC Barcelona next season, a wish he claims to share with the club. “They want me to stay and I am very happy to do so” said the Chilean. “I hope to offer a lot more of myself next season. I am pleased with what I have managed to do so far, but I can do much more … I never give up and I hope to be able to things even better next year”.
Competition in attack
Alexis played 27 league games this season, and spoke about his place in the starting eleven. “It is very hard to be a first team regular at Barça. There are some very good strikers like Villa, Tello and Pedro, they’re really very good” he said. “Playing for Barça is like starting football all over again. I have learned a lot of things. I won’t grade my performances this year, but I’ll try to do even better next season”.
All’s well that ends well
Alexis Sánchez’s immediate goal is for the team to end the season with back-to-back wins against Espanyol and Malaga. “It’s a big game against Espanyol, Barça always have to win every game and this will be a difficult opponent” said the man who has just won his first Spanish championship with Barça. “This was an important title for us, and everything that happened with our manager and with Abidal motivated us that little bit more”.

Barça top European scoring

FC Barcelona have scored more league goals than any other team in Europe this season

With two matches left to play, Barça are the continent’s top league scorers with 3.03 goals a game

Barça need five more goals to equal last season’s club record of 114

Having won the league for the fourth time in five years, Barça are still adding to their legend. They have been on unstoppable form in the domestic championship and have scored more top flight goals than other team in Europe, 109, with two games left to play. That’s four more than the 103 that PSV got in the Eredivisie, despite losing out to the title to Ajax, and eleven more than the 98 racked up by Bayern Munich in their record-breaking march to the Bundesliga title.
More than 3 a game
That makes for an average of 3.03 goals a game, the same as PSV in Holland. Their closest rivals in the other major European leagues have been Bayern (2.88), Benfica (2.56), Manchester United (2.26), Napoli (1.92) and PSG (1.78).
Five short of club record
FC Barcelona are hoping to become only the second side to ever make it to 100 points in a Liga season, while another record they still have in their sights is to set a new club goalscoring record. It is very unlikely now that they’ll be able to top the all-time Liga record of 121 goals scored by Real Madrid last season, but the Barcelona record of 114 goals, also set last year, is just five goals away. If Barça can maintain the same goalscoring rate in the last two games of the season as they have done up until now, then that record will fall.

Abidal continues recovery on the field

Piqué, who missed the last session, trained normally today, as did Adriano and Alves, who are recovering from their respective fitness problems
The first team trained early this evening at the Ciutat Esportiva in preparation for Sunday’s Liga game with Espanyol. Jordi Roura took the session, which featured Gerard Piqué, who was given special permission to miss training on Thursday. Alves and Adriano, who are both not yet fully fit, were able to train normally.
Meanwhile, Éric Abidal is continuing to work on recovery from his left soleus injury and made an appearance on the field today. As for the other injured players, Carles Puyol continued with his recuperation schedule and Leo Messi did physiotherapy.
Both of the first team goalkeepers, Víctor Valdés and José Manuel Pinto, were joined today by their colleague from Barça B, Jordi Masip.

Photo of the residents at La Masia in the 2012/13 season

The 80 youngsters that have resided at La Masia this year posed for a photo session in front of the emblematic building at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper

At first, La Masia was used as a workshop for making models, and  a work studio for architects and builders, as well as a starting point for visits from people associated with construction. When the Camp Nou stadium was inaugurated, on September 24th, 1957 La Masia closed it’s doors and awaited it’s destiny. In Enric Llaudet’s presidential term the building was remodeled, and at the same time extended, to house the headquarters of the Club, which left the Via Laietana to move next to the stadium. The new headquarters were inaugurated on September 26th, 1966.

The increase and creation of various new club areas meant that La Masia didn’t have enough space as a headquarters, which were again moved by Agustí Montal’s board, next to the ice rink. Thus, La Masia was again available for a new venture. The board, under Josep Lluís Núñez, moved very quickly. La Masia became the residence of the youth players who lived outside the city. The re-modelling work was carried out very quickly and on October 20th 1979 it  was officially opened for its new purpose. The Masia building adjacent to the Camp Nou was decommissioned as the Club’s youth academy centre in 2011. That same year, the new Masia, Centro de formación Oriol Tort was opened in the Sant Joan Despí Training Centre.

If until now La Masia, as a training academy, has been, and still is, a reference and model that many clubs around the world would like to copy, the new centre Oriol Tort, will also be. The new Masia, Oriol Tort Training Center, located at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, will be a modern and functional building,  with all necessary services adapted to the reality of society.
The new Centre has great facilities, designed exclusively to optimize the intellectual, personal, and social education of sportspeople.  All this without forgetting to maintain the warmth and closeness of its residents, educators and staff belonging to the Club, something that has been so successful in the past.

A youth squad with a future
Thus, the objective of this residence has been to educate, both sportingly and intellectually, young people who have left their families and their communities to pursue a career with Barça. Coinciding with Barça’s centennial year, La Masia celebrated its twentieth anniversary and the balance was all positive. Currently, more than thirty young players brought up in La Masia have made their first-team debut. Among these are included Amor, Guardiola, Sergi, De la Peña, Puyol, Xavi, Reina, Víctor Valdés, Gabri and Messi, as well as a significant number of other players who have gone on to play in the Spanish League for other teams. The list of young talents who reside in La Masia is not limited to players from Catalonia or the rest of Spain, but also from many other countries.

Andrés Iniesta, in a ‘hangout’ with Pato: “Playing in Brazil is magic”

Iniesta took part in a hangout with Google + with Pato to talk about the Confederations Cup to be held this summer in Brazil

The Barça midfielder spoke about his goals against Chelsea in 2009 and in eth 2010 World Cup Final

To mark this summer’s Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup – both set to be held in Brazil – Iniesta participated in a hangout on the Google + page together with the Corinthians and Brazil strikerAlexandre Pato. The next edition of the Champions League takes shape

22 teams have qualified for next year's competition, the remaining 10 will feature the Champions League qualifiers later this summer
As this season’s edition of the Champions League comes to a close with the final between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich, the next edition of the most prestigious club competition has started to take shape. It should be noted that the top eight seeded teams cannot face each other in the group phase given that each team will be placed in their own group.

The top eight seeded teams are BarçaBayern MunichChelseaMadridManchester United,ArsenalPorto and Benfica. There are a couple of pending matters still yet to be decided, however. Arsenal need to progress past the Champions League qualifying round, and if Borussia Dortmund win this year’s Champions League title, they will be seeded next season.

In addition to the seeded teams, Manchester CityAtlético MadridBorussia DortmundBayerLeverkusenJuventusNaplesParis Saint-GermainOlympique MarseilleCSKA MoscowAjax,Shakhtar DonetskOlympiakosGalatasarayAnderlecht and Copenhagen have all qualified for the next edition of the competition.

Adriano and Alves work with the rest of the group

The Brazilian, who has extended his contract with the Club till 2017, can play at full back on either flank, centre half, in midfield and also on the wing.

With every season he’s scored more goals.

Adriano Correia, who has extended his contract until 2017, is the perfect versatility player for FC Barcelona. That versatility has seen him play in five different positions- and always at the highest level. Adriano has played as both left and right back, centre half, in the middle and as a winger and that quality combined with his immense talent have made him a player the coaches know they can place their trust in.
More goals with every season
Adriano was the Club’s first signing under President Rosell and he has enjoyed more and more opportunities with each season – something he has repaid with more and more goals. He scored just once in the 2010/11 campaign, 3 the following year and this season he has doubled that to six, so far. A tireless team player, Adriano has also shown himself to be a great finisher from distance, with spectacular goals against Valencia and Atletico de Madrid in particular.
105 games and 10 goals
Only injuries have kept Adriano from making more appearances over his three years at the Club, though he in fact played in 105 games (31 in 2010/11, 40 in 2011/12 and 34 so far this season), and scored 10 times. Only once has he mana

Azulgrana RoundUp, Week 31 - Messi: "I'm only focused on staying at FC Barcelona"

Leo Messi sat down with Televisión Azteca’s Inés Sainz last week to give his take on FC Barcelona’s 2012/13 season. “I was very happy to win La Liga,” starts Messi, “the Spanish league is a very important competition because of the rivals we had to go up against, like Real Madrid; they are one of the best teams in the world.”

Even though Barça took control of table from the first week of the competition, Messi says that the road that led the team to the title wasn’t an easy one to travel. “The truth is that this hasn’t been easy because we came into this season after a big change,” says the Argentinian in reference to Guardiola’s departure. He adds: “Things went well with Tito [Vilanova], because he practically didn’t change anything. But we noticed a change when he left, not because Roura or the training staff who stayed on didn’t do a good job but because we were missing our head manager ... It wasn’t the same. One year is a long time and it’s great that we can finish it by celebrating.”

The tough Champions League campaign, in addition to Éric Abidal and Tito Vilanova’s absence for large swaths of the year, certainly added to the burden the players had to carry throughout an otherwise successful season. “You can’t always win,” says Messi in reference to Barça's elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich. “We’ve been playing our brand of football for years and managers and teams have studied it. But we can’t lose our heads after what happened this season. We can’t change Barcelona’s style of play because that’s what has defined the team for years. We have to stay calm and focus on next year.”

When asked about his future plans, the Argentinian superstar declared, “I’m only focused on staying at Barcelona until the end. I’d like to play in Argentina one day, but I won’t play for another European team.”

Elche return 24 years later

Elche are the first team to be promoted to the top flight this season and that means Barça will face them next year for the first time since 1989

Bakero and Amor scored the goals in Barça’s win the last time Elche were in the top flight

The draw between Barça B and Alcorcon on Saturday meant that Elche were mathematically promoted from the second division – the first of three who will be coming up next year. Elche will be returning to La Liga for the first time since 1989 and marking their 20th season in the top flight of Spanish football.

Stats in Barça’s favour
Of the 38 games played between Barça and Elche in the league, Barça have won 19, drawn 11 and lost just 8 – the most recent in the 1974/5 season when they lost 1-0 in Alicante.
Unbeaten at the Camp Nou
Barça’s record is even better at home, with 12 wins, 7 draws and not a single defeat. The last time Elche came to the Camp Nou was on 12 February 1989 when they were beaten 2-0 with goals from Bakero and Amor (2-0). The two have also met twice in the Cup – in the last 16 in 1962/63 and in the quarter finals three years later. Barça won both ties.

Xavi: “Footballing respect is what’s important”

The Barça midfielder reckons it’s perfectly normal that the Espanyol players offer a guard of honour to the new League champions this Sunday: “in the same way we had to when Real Madrid were crowned champions”.

“Casilla said this Wednesday that the players would do it. I understand their fans but footballing respect is what’s important”, according to Xavi.

The Catalan was speaking after picking up the Premi Barça Jugadors prize in recognition of his fair play during the 2011/12 season
